Here we go again...

The once emptied basket is now full again. This time all the quilts were started in this decade!
Eight quilts tops ready and waiting to be quilted. These are tops that I made in the last 3-4 months. They are all now sandwiched and pinned.

I LOVE starting a new quilt.
I LOVE selecting fabrics and making a plan.
I LOVE seeing how that plan changes as I get into it.
I LOVE seeing it all come together.
That is where the love affair is put on hold because I don't LOVE to quilt them. I have a new machine with a bigger throat, which makes it much easier, but still not fun to me. Thank goodness that I also LOVE hand stitching my binding or I might not ever make it through the quilting stage.

Mission Complete!

There was one last quilt at the bottom of my basket. I started this quilt in the 90's! I bought this beautiful piece of fabric from the shop that used to be in St. Louis Park in Miracle Mile. The batik flowers were already on fabric, all stitched with beautiful bright thread. I remember that it was spendy, but I had to have it. I couldn't bring myself to cut it up at all and I didn't see the point in getting too crazy with it. I decided to put a simple border of batiks around it and call it done. It has been sitting (sandwiched and pinned!) since 1999. Yikes! Talk about UFO's.
So now the basket is EMPTY!! All of the unfinished quilts are finished!! Except for the ones in the next basket, which are finished tops without backs. That is my next challenge for myself. But before I move on to the next challenge, I want to celebrate the accomplishment of this one! So...
...I would like to have a giveaway. For a chance to win your very own moda messenger bag, leave a comment about a recent goal that you have accomplished (sewing or otherwise). I will randomly chose a winner next week.

P.S. I also have a fat quarter for the first person to remind me of the name of that fabric shop in SLP!

The picture says it all...to me at least. In case it doesn't speak to you the way it speaks to me, let me explain. That is a basket of unfinished quilts. The tops are done. They are sandwiched and pinned, but they are waiting to be quilted. I haven't gotten to them because I am too busy with so many other things. I started a quilting business a while ago that has morphed and twisted into much more than that. I sew lots of little things (napkins, bags, eye pillows...) because they sell. They sell fast. My focus has moved away from quilts and I need to move it back. They sell too, just not as quickly. So, in an effort to keep myself to my word, I proclaim to blogland that I will finish a quilt-a-week. Wish me luck and stay tuned to see my progress!
